Oliver Stone's films are always filled with controversy, but there is something visceral, thought provoking, and beautiful about each one of them. 'The Doors' is a fascinating interpretation of Jim Morrison's life and career, with Val Kilmer exhibiting one of the finest performances ever. This is a true example of Kilmer's acting genius with Stone's striking perspective.

Interestingly, Kilmer spent over a year preparing for the role, and ended up singing vocals on the live concert scenes throughout the film. He did this for authenticity, and it is pretty incredible to watch and experience. In fact, the surviving members of The Doors claim that Val Kilmer did such a good job playing and singing as Jim Morrison that they could not distinguish his voice from the real Jim Morrison.

This scene in particular combines both the real recording of 'The End', with Kilmer's performance on-screen. The performance scene took five days of shooting and was one of the most exhausting things Kilmer ever experienced. Kilmer got so into his role as Morrison, that he needed a psychiatrist to get the character out of his head once production had wrapped. What is great about this scene is how Stone really does capture the droning trance of Morrison's music, and the powerful effect it had on the audience. At that time, what he was performing was completely new, and Morrison's poetry struck into the heart of everyone he touched.
