Ep. 111 - Marc Shaiman's 'Misery'
It's Halloween!

Drama, Music, Thriller, 27-Oct-2021
Want a masterclass in filmmaking, acting, cinematography, editing, and film composing? This scene is it. Rob Reiner's masterful 1990 film starring the incredible James Caan and Kathy Bates (who won an Academy Award for the role) is one of our favorite films, especially leading up to Halloween. Shaiman's score is an absolute treasure, and this scene in particular is composed perfectly with the tension unfolding un-screen. As Paul Sheldon (Caan) struggles to make it back to his room before Annie (Bates) returns, listen to Shaiman's subtle and beautiful technique in ratcheting up the tension right up to the end. Listen to the piano! Enjoy!
