Justin Freer talks about James Horner’s epic Academy Award® winning score to James Cameron’s 1997 film, Titanic. The film also won an additional ten Oscars® including Best Picture, and is one of the highest grossing films of all time. Justin discusses the first time he met Horner at a recording session, how that changed his young adult life, and some really fascinating musical elements of Horner’s compositional style that highlight the genius of one of the most well respected composers in cinematic history.
Horner, having tragically passed away from an aircraft accident in 2015, wrote over 100 film scores including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Avatar, and Braveheart. He won two Academy Awards, six Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, three Satellite Awards, and three Saturn Awards, and was nominated for three BAFTAs.
