Richard Donner's 1978 masterpiece featuring the great Gene Hackman and the late Marlon Brando & Christopher Reeve was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and of course... Best Music (Original Score) by maestro John Williams. Even though John Williams did not win that year, the Main Title from 'Superman' is much like 'Star Wars' - it is one of the most memorable cues ever written.
The 'Superman' theme reached #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year, which at present is unheard of specifically for a soundtrack score cue. To highlight even more of John Williams' composing genius, we wanted to feature this 'Main Title' sequence from one of the best films ever.
