Drama, Music, Romance, 04-Jan-2021
Ever since Newman composed 'American Beauty' for Sam Mendes' first feature film in 1999, their continued collaboration has been a true gift. There is something unique about Mendes, as he's able to capture incredible character moments while also using the simple tools of cinema to accentuate scenes in very powerful ways. For example, very few directors give space for a composer to take risks, especially in key scenes where music might actually be distracting. But Newman always finds a way to score the most intense scenes perfectly. The most prominent and unique thing about Newman's score to 'Revolutionary Road' is how he shapes, twists, and almost subconsciously changes a simple piano motif you hear in 'Route 12' into every scene thereafter. It is also important to watch how Newman's music so gorgeously fits with the incredible cinematography and everything within the frame. Enjoy this one, it is one of our favorites in what otherwise is a very dark and serious film. If you haven't seen it, definitely put it on your list of movies to watch - Leo and Kate deliver knockout performances.
