There is little doubt that James Horner's music to the 1989 film 'Glory' is one of the best scores he ever composed. Featuring the Boys Choir of Harlem, Glory tells the tragic story of the first black regiment (the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment) in America during the Civil War. The soundtrack packs a massive emotional punch, especially in this scene where the regiment leads the charge on the fort, resulting in massive losses.
Fort Wagner never fell to the Union Army. But the courage demonstrated by the 54th, as mentioned by Abraham Lincoln himself, helped turn the tide of the war.
