Ep. 160 - Thomas Newman's 'Shawshank Redemption'

Drama, 18-May-2022
Frank Darabont's cinematic masterpiece is one of the most unforgettable films of the mid-90's. In 2015, the Library of Congress actually selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant'.
We think that this is also one of Thomas Newman's finest compositions - the subtle yet powerfully emotional music seems to perfectly elevate scenes without distracting from them. This scene features the cue 'Brooks Was Here' - an incredibly sad sequence of scenes that Newman perfectly defines through music. If you haven't seen this film, you must do so immediately.
