Ep. 105 - Trevor Gureckis' 'Old'
Drama, Horror, Mystery, Music, 06-Oct-2021
We are huge fans of M. Night Shyamalan's work, so you can imagine we couldn't wait to see what he did with his new film, 'Old'. Without giving too much away, the film focuses on a group of people stuck on a beach that age at a very accelerated rate.
Composer Trevor Gureckis (https://www.gureckis.com/About) caught our eye after we heard his masterful work with M. Night on 'Servant', a truly excellent show on Apple TV+. Well, we can tell you that his work on 'Old' doesn't disappoint. In fact, it adds such texture and complexity to the film that at times feels like its own character.
This scene is simply when the group of individuals goes into this beach for the first time through a deep canyon. The music's texture and melody offers a perfect combination of wonder, dread, mystery, and foreboding because you know what's coming.
If you haven't seen this in the theater already, do so! It's a really unique and original work that fits well in the expanding Shyamalan repertoire. We can't wait to hear what Trevor has coming up next.
