We feel that this is one of Ennio Morricone's best scores. The work combines liturgical chorales, native drumming, and Spanish-influenced guitars in an attempt to really capture the cultures depicted in the film. The soundtrack was nominated for an Academy Award in 1986 and won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, in addition to a BAFTA for Best Music.

The film overall, like much of Roland Joffé's work, is extremely tragic, emotional, and hard-hitting. Enjoy these two cues from the film which highlights Morricone's genius. This scene in particular is when a mercenary and slaver played by Robert De Niro undergoes penance, and in doing so, finds peace.
