Ep. 133 - 2001: A Space Odyssey (Richard Strauss)
Adventure, Sci-Fi, 14-Feb-2022
Of course, there is nothing quite like a Kubrick movie, because experiencing it is unforgettable and unique. This is especially true for this film, which was innovative in its use of classical music taken from existing commercial recordings. This sequence, referred as 'The Dawn of Man', showcases Richard Strauss' tone poem "Also spruce Zarathustra", which is translated as "Thus Spake Zarathustra". Interestingly, this theme is used both at the beginning of the film, and also at the end. The ape's conquest in discovering a weapon is a marvel to watch, especially with the celebratory and epic nature of the music.
