Ep. 141 - Trainspotting (Underworld)
Drama, 14-Mar-2022
Choose your future. Choose life.
Danny Boyle's 1996 film goes down in the history books as one of the best films ever made. The screenplay by John Hodge was nominated for an Academy Award and the film itself is considered to be one of the top 100 British films of the 20th century. It captured addicts in an economically depressed area of Edinburgh and their passage through life. In doing so, Boyle really captured the techno-dance music from the 90s which included not only Underworld, but Bedrock and Ice MC.
In 2007, the editors of Vanity Fair magazine ranked this soundtrack as the 7th best motion picture soundtrack in history.
This scene in particular is a special one, when Mark Renton (played by Ewan McGregor) finally realizes what he needs to do, Underworld is able to capture the essence of Renton choosing.... life.
