Ep. 148 - John Murphy & Underworld's 'Sunshine'
Thriller, Sci-Fi, Music, 06-Apr-2022
This intense sci-fi psychological thriller by Danny Boyle is another one of our favorites. Is there anything Boyle can't do? With a brilliant script by Alex Garland, there are many aspects from this film inspired by Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey), or even Tarkovsky (Solaris) and Ridley Scott (Alien).
The score itself is fascinating, as it features both John Murphy and Underworld. Underworld, if you remember, was featured as a separate snapshot from Boyle's 'Trainspotting', so it's interesting to be able to compare them both at different stages of their respective careers.
This scene in particular comes at the end of the film, and we feel its just a gorgeous piece of cinema not only for its cinematography, but the way the moving image works with Underworld's 'To Heal'. The result is just a gorgeous experience that really defines Boyle's aesthetic.
If you haven't seen the film, we recommend it highly. Check it out.
