Ep. 151 - Clint Mansell's 'Black Swan'
Drama, Music, Thriller, 18-Apr-2022
Who can forget Darren Aronofsky's 2010 psychological thriller, 'Black Swan'? Receiving five Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Natalie Portman went on to win both an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actress.
The series of scenes presented here not only showcase Portmans' incredible work, but it also exhibits Clint Mansell's fantastic score. In what would be the fifth consecutive collaboration with Aronofsky, Mansell attempted to score the film based on Tchaikovsky's ballet but with some radical changes to the music. Unfortunately, because of the use of Tchaikovsky's music, the score was deemed ineligible to be entered into the Academy Awards for Best Original Score.
Even so, we think this sequence is a fantastic example of blending non-original and original music together in something that is incredibly unique and visually striking. If you haven't seen the film, we recommend that you do. But beware, it's intense!
