Ep. 157 - Patrick Doyle's 'Thor'
Action, Adventure, Fantasy, 09-May-2022
We love the collaboration between Patrick Doyle and Branagh, and 'Thor' is one of Doyle's best scores simply because of its complexity. Doyle himself even mentioned that it was a challenge to find a tone that fit the duality of Asgard and Earth, and we think he found a perfect balance.
This scene in particular is an emotional moment between Loki, Thor, and his father Odin (played by the great Anthony Hopkins). Doyle's musical choices here are brilliant, going from strings to piano, then back to strings. There is a delicate and almost personal touch with the music that narrows your focus on the characters - again, very characteristic of Branagh's work.
