Ep. 166 - Jerry Goldsmith's 'The Mummy'
Action, Adventure, Fantasy, 15-Jun-2022
Saying 'The Mummy' was successful in 1999 is an understatement - it was hugely successful, and sparked a multitude of sequels, a park ride, spinoffs, and a reboot. With a score by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith, orchestrations were provided by Alexander Courage. Sommers, the film's director, had previously used Goldsmith on 'Deep Rising', and Goldsmith himself was riding the wave of a variety of action-esque film scores such as 'Air Force One'. We think this score is one of his finest achievements for its scale, but also his use of regional instruments like the bouzouki.
This opening theme of the film contains nearly all of his major themes used throughout the entire score. We hope you enjoy his masterful work on this film. And of course, if you haven't seen it, it's a must-see.
