Ep. 196 - Zbigniew Preisner's 'Trois Couleurs: Bleu'
Drama, Music, Mystery, 07-Dec-2022
Krzysztof Kieślowski is one of the best directors alive today, who has spanned his career producing and directing some of the most beautiful cinematic masterpieces to-date. 'Bleu', which is one of the films from his 'Trois couleurs' trilogy is a poetic triumph, as it follows Juliette Binoche (Julie) through her grief after the loss of her husband and child in a car accident. Her late husband was a composer, and was writing a grand operatic symphony that was meant for the 'unification of Europe' at the time. It was rumored that Julie was actually the one that helped much her husband's famous pieces, and as a result, she tries to destroy what is left of the unfinished symphony. However, a collaborator of her late husband (Olivier) retained a copy and says later on that he plans to finish it himself. Upon hearing this, Julie meets him and finishes it with him.
This scene in particular is when Julie and Olivier work on finishing the symphony. It is a perfect element of the score by Preisner being a part of the actual film, and it is always a pleasure to watch a film's score be integrated in this way. If you haven't seen this, or listened to the score at the very least, you are missing out.
