Ep. 211 - Alberto Iglesias' 'Lucía y el sexo'
Drama, Romance, 15-Feb-2023
Alberto Iglesias is one of our favorite composers, and most know his work through his longtime collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar. 'Lucía y el sexo' is a 2001 Spanish drama directed by the great Julio Medem starring Paz Vega, and is about love, loss, and dreams. This film is a beautiful experience from start to finish, and actually won two Goya Awards - the first for Best New Actress (Paz Vega), and Best Original Score for Alberto Iglesias. For those of you wondering, the Goya Awards are the Academy Awards of Spain.
The score is just beautiful, featuring soundscapes with piano, some violin and orchestral motifs. It is an emotional powerhouse that follows each character through their journey. This scene in particular focuses on two strangers coming together who share a similar lifeline - Lucía (Paz Vega) starts to put the pieces together. If you haven't seen this film, please do so.
