Justin Freer talks about Benjamin Wallfisch’s beautiful and subtle score to the 2016 American biographical drama film Hidden Figures, directed by Theodore Melfi. It was chosen by National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2016 and was nominated for numerous awards, including three Oscar nominations (Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Spencer), and two Golden Globes (Best Supporting Actress for Spencer and Best Original Score).
Wallfisch, an English composer, conductor, and pianist has composed and contributed to music for over 60 feature films. His compositions include original scores for A Cure for Wellness, Hidden Figures, Lights Out, Desert Dancer, It, Blade Runner 2049, and Shazam!. In 2017, he was jointly nominated with Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer for Best Original Score at the 74th Golden Globe Awards for his work on Hidden Figures, and a BAFTA Award and Grammy Award for Blade Runner 2049.
