Ep. 37 - Thomas Newman's '1917' (4K HDR)
Drama, Music, Thriller, War, 10-Feb-2021
Thomas Newman, again, is the master of sound and color. He is able to uniquely express moments within a scene, or within characters, that are completely invisible yet so poignant and emotional. '1917' is a masterpiece on a variety of levels, and Newman's score is truly an experience to behold.
The elaborate long takes and incredible cinematography somehow allow Newman's score to have a unique life on-screen that is rare. It creates a visceral and deep reaction to the moments between characters - something director Sam Mendes is so great at achieving in each of his films. There is no question why Newman and Mendes continue to work with each other.
