Ep. 84 - Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard's 'Gladiator'
Action, Adventure, Drama, Music, 26-Jul-2021
There is nothing quite like the opening sequence of this film scored by the incredible Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard for Ridley Scott's Academy Award-winning film, 'Gladiator'. The score itself was nominated for an Oscar, and Gerrard's vocals are similar to her own work on 'The Insider', which is another one of our favorites.
This sequence is fantastic in that you immediately can get a sense of who Maximus (Russell Crowe) truly is as he prepares for (and ultimately faces) battle. This is particularly defined musically by Lisa Gerrard's haunting yet hopeful melody that comes and goes throughout many of the cues in the film.
If you haven't seen this film, it is an absolute must-see. Better yet, go to one of our 'Gladiator Live' shows featuring the entire score performed live to picture (https://www.cineconcerts.com/gladiator-live).
