Ep. 91 - Patrick Doyle's 'A Little Princess'
Drama, Fantasy, Kids and Family, Music, 18-Aug-2021
It is no secret that Patrick Doyle is one of our absolute favorite composers, and we love the score to 'A Little Princess', the 1995 film directed by the great Alfonso Cuarón. The score is filled with so many great cues, it was difficult to pick just one. The mix of western and eastern motifs combined into a variety of gorgeous harmonic suites and solos is what we love most about it. The story focuses on a young girl who is relegated to a life of servitude in New York City boarding school after receiving news that her father was killed in combat - which, of course, is actually proven to be false.
We feel this film is a wonderful hidden gem. It actually received two Oscar nominations, and Doyle's score is a truly unique listening experience from start to finish. He captures the emotion and imagination of the characters so well.
