Ep. 97 - Thomas Newman's 'Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events'

We love featuring any score by Thomas Newman, and in this Snapshot we are showcasing his work to 'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events' - the 2004 adventure film directed by Brad Silberling. This scene comes near the end of the film, where three orphans open a letter from their parents - something they had always dreamed about. It's a touching, beautiful moment that Thomas Newman scores nearly perfectly. One does not need to know what is being said (or read in this case), since the music does that for you. If anything, the music fits perfectly with the text in the letter which states, "... there is so much good in the world than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough." You really feel that in the music.
The letter opening proceeds to blend into the end credits, which is equally gorgeous not only visually, but musically. This is one of our favorite end credit sequences, created by the incredibly talented Jamie Caliri (https://vimeo.com/jamiecaliri).
